SUMMARY:I Love the 80's 5K - Fort Lauderdale
DESCRIPTION:What is the best decade? It is without a doubt the 80’s.  Those who grew up in the 80’s want to go back and those who didn’t want to go and experience it.  It was a time with crazy hairstyles\, clothes\, music and technology.  It was a time when technology was just reaching out to a whole new world.  Computers\, Atari and Walkmans were ruling the world.  The 80’s took us from records and 8-tracks to the amazing and compact cassette tape.  It was so amazing that we could fit all our music on this little cassette tape.  We could hold this amazing electronic device called a walkman and play our cassette tape.  You could rewind\, fast forward and pause our music on demand….WOW!   Who remembers taking a #2 pencil to fix their cassette tape\, we all did it. \nThe 80’s were a decade of unforgettable clothes\, hairstyles and music.  There were many hair supply companies that thrived in the 80’s because of all the hairspray used to get your hair just as you wanted it.  Girls could not make their hair fluffy or puffy enough.  Guys wanted their hair longer and straighter.  The mullet was such a work of art.   To compliment the great hair women wore wonderful wardrobes with items like jelly bracelets\, jelly shoes\, leg warmers\, shoulder pads Guess jeans and vibrant neon clothing.   The men loved to wear denim and members only jackets\, baggy pants\, tight white shirt and parachute pants.  People would spend all this time on their hair and outfits to go out and listen to amazing music.  The decade started with some unforgettable bands like Duran Duran\, Motley Crew\, Bon Jovi\, Metallica\, R.E.M.\, Eurythmics\, A-Ha\, Wham and Depeche Mode.  The finished with some amazing group becoming mainstream such as Guns n Roses\, Beastie Boys\, Madonna and Michael Jackson. The 80’s introduced us to rap with the likes of Run DMC\, Beastie Boys\, Public Enemy\, 2-Live Crew\, Slick Rick and N.W.A.  The 80s were such a revolutionary time in the music industry and is still a major influence on music today. \nThere was so many great moments in the 80’s and would like to take you back to this amazing time at the Inaugural I LOVE THE 80’s 5K Run/Walk.  The day promises to be a trip down memory lane and an experience to the most unforgettable decade.  We will have the best 80’s music playing all day.  We ask that everyone dress in the best 80’s outfit (including your hair style).  We will award prizes for male and female best hair\, outfit and group coordination outfit.  Please be creative as you take a trip back to the good old days. \nWe encourage your to tell your friends and family about this fun day and encourage your to get a group together.  Sign up as a group and save 10% on all entries within your group.  We will have special prizes for largest group and best dressed group. \nRegister today to ensure your spot at our visit to the 80’s.\n \n \nCOURSE MAP \n  \nSCHEDULE OF EVENTS:\nPre-Race Packet Pickup\nThursday January 7\, 2021:  8:30am – 5:30pm\nOffice Evolution – Plantation\n261 N. SUMMARY:3rd Annual Parkinson's Won't Stop Me 5K
DESCRIPTION:PARKINSON’S WON’T STOP ME 5K\nRESCHEDULED to 2021\nWE ARE EXCITED TO ANNOUNCE THE NEW 2021 DATE:\nSATURDAY JANUARY 30\, 2021 – TY PARK (HOLLYWOOD)\n \nParkinson’s disease (PD) is a neurodegenerative disorder that affects predominately dopamine-producing (“dopaminergic”) neurons in a specific area of the brain called substantia nigra. \nSymptoms generally develop slowly over years. The progression of symptoms is often a bit different from one person to another due to the diversity of the disease. People with PD may experience: \n\nTremor\, mainly at rest and described as pill rolling tremor in hands. Other forms of tremor are possible\nBradykinesia\nLimb rigidity\nGait and balance problems\n\nThe cause remains largely unknown. Although there is no cure\, treatment options vary and include medications and surgery. While Parkinson’s itself is not fatal\, disease complications can be serious. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) rated complications from PD as the 14th cause of death in the United States. \n\nThe first step to living well with Parkinson’s disease is to understand the disease and the progression: \n\nIt is possible to have a good to great quality of life with PD. Working with your doctor and following recommended therapies are essential in successfully treating symptoms by using dopaminergic medications. People with PD need this medication because they have low levels or are missing dopamine in the brain\, mainly due to impairment of neurons in the substantia nigra. \nIt is important to understand that people with PD first start experiencing symptoms later in the course of the disease because a significant amount of the substantia nigra neurons have already been lost or impaired. Lewy bodies (accumulation of abnormal alpha-synuclein) are found in substantia nigra neurons of PD patients. \nScientists are exploring ways to identify biomarkers for PD that can lead to earlier diagnosis and more tailored treatments to slow down the disease process. Currently\, all therapies used for PD improve symptoms without slowing or halting the disease progression. \nIn addition to movement-related (“motor”) symptoms\, Parkinson’s symptoms may be unrelated to movement (“non-motor”).People with PD are often more impacted by their non-motor symptoms than motor symptoms. Examples of non-motor symptoms include: apathy\, depression\, constipation\, sleep behavior disorders\, loss of sense of smell and cognitive impairment. \nIn idiopathic Parkinson’s disease\, progression tends to be slow and variable. Doctors often use the Hoehn and Yahr scale to gauge the progression of the disease over the years. The scale was originally implemented in 1967 and it included stages zero to five\, where zero is no signs of Parkinson’s and five is advanced PD. It was later changed to become the modified Hoehn and Yahr scale. \nSo many people in South Florida have been affected or know someone who has been affected by Parkinson’s Disease.  The 3rd Annual Parkinson’s Won’t Stop Me 5K – Honoring Miami-Dade Fire Fighter Paul Bersach will help the Parkinson’s Foundation raise money to help find a cure and help those affected.  Paul Bersach\, a former Miami-Dade Fire Fighter\, was affected by this unfortunate disease and this 5K will honor his name and help ensure other families do not go through what his family endured.  Paul dedicated so much of his life to helping others\, including 30 years of service to Miami-Dade Fire Rescue.  Paul is blessed with a beautiful family\, starting with his wife Toby and their three children Stacey\, Andy\, and Cindy.  The family is focused on continuing his legacy of giving.  Proceeds from the event will go to the Parkinson’s Foundation in Paul’s honor.  Your support is humbling and will help all those who are fighting against Parkinson’s Disease\, which will be one step closer to a cure thanks to your support. \nRACE INFORMATION: \nTY Park\n3300 N.
